The type and condition of the product determines the path of processing. Type of product is defined as notebook, accessory, or part. Condition is defined by age, use, cosmetics, completeness and functionality.
We check products for type and condition by using Panasonic and PlanITROI diagnostics. If product is new in a factory sealed box, it's immediately sent to the last part of the inventory process for sale. If product is new but NOT factory sealed, it's sent through the same process as all other used product.
Process for Toughbook notebooks (factory refurbished, used recertified, open box new):
Step #1 - (ROE) Receipt of Equipment
The first part of the process is to check to see if the product and accessories are complete based on its configuration model number. For example, AC adapter, power cord, battery, optical drives and any other accessories that would accompany this particular model.
Step #2 - Battery Run Down
The second part of the process is to rack units and perform a battery run down. We rack units and charge them for a minimum of 6 hours. After units have had the proper time to charge, we perform a battery run down test to determine the length of battery life.
Step #3 - Functionality
The third part of the process is to perform full Panasonic diagnostic testing. This is done using software required by Panasonic for complete evaluation of the product according to model configuration specifications and performance standards. We may also use a secondary evaluation tool based on the configuration, i.e. touch screen, wireless, etc. to test for further functionality. In this process we input into the database the full configuration and any down or upgrades to the existing model number on the unit. For example, we typically end up with units with upgrades including but not limited to: memory, hard drives, optical drives, wireless, etc.
Step #4 - Operating System (OS) Software
The fourth part of the process is determining the OS. If included, the unit will have the original manufacturer preload and full OS license and documentation. If not included, the unit will have a command prompt loaded and be ready for the operating system of your choice. We also give our clients the opportunity to have PlanITROI upgrade the OS base on our Customize it tab.
Step #5 - Audit
The fifth part of the process is to confirm from the functionality test the model configuration to the actual configuration. We compare the specifications as stated on the bottom of the unit versus the Panasonic original specifications for that model number. Typically our clients send us products upgraded beyond the original model specification. We note all specifications in our Overview tab and Customize it tab. This information will list exactly what is included in the unit and shows any down or upgraded additions to the original model number. Also, we attach Panasonic's original specifications under the Detailed Specs tab for further clarification.
Step #6 - Cosmetics
The sixth part of the process is to evaluate the cosmetics. Some products may have cosmetic imperfections such as scratches, dents, cracks, etc., which do not in any way affect the functionality or performance of the unit. However, we alert the customer to the imperfections and grade them accordingly.
Step #7 - Grading
Our Grades (RB, A, B & C) all are 100% functional but have varying degrees of cosmetics, parts, accessories and battery functionality that ultimately determine the final grade.
Step #8 - Quality Control (QC), Kitting & Boxing
The final process is to ensure proper representation through
QC, Kitting and
Boxing. All Grades (RB, A, B & C) units are retested based on Panasonic's performance qualifications by model for final QC. All Grades (RB, A, B & C) units are kitted according to the
Overview or
Customize it tab, thereby ensuring uniformity. All products are boxed based on the product and shipping method. There are three boxing options: individual box, 5-pack box, and bulk pack monster box (52-pack box, 156 units per pallet). Individual units are put into UPS approved boxes. Bulk shipments are boxed according to the type of equipment. Please check our
boxing section for details.
